TPA3122 class D Amplifier

TPA3122 class D amplifier is an electronic device that increases the voltage, current, or power of a signal. Amplifiers are used in wireless communications and broadcasting, and in audio equipment. Audio amplifiers are a must-have item for any home theater system, audio system, entertainment center, or surround-sound system.

  • TPA3122D2 IC is used as a class D audio amplifier and can deliver up to 15W of power at 10% distortions.
  • The real advantage of using a class D amp, especially TPA3122 is the fact that this IC doesn’t need a heatsink because it has high efficiency.
  • Another great thing about it is the build-it-yourself kit or even cheaper from eBay but you need to be careful not to buy a fake one.

TPA3122 class D Amplifier Features

  • 10-W/ch into a 4-Ω Load From a 17-V Supply
  • 15-W/ch into an 8-Ω Load From a 28-V Supply
  • Operates from 10 V to 30 V
  • Efficient Class-D Operation
  • 20-pin DIP Package
  • Thermal and Short-Circuit Protection with Auto Recovery Feature.

TERMINAL FUNCTIONS of  TPA3122 Class D Amplifier

Pin 1: PVCCL – Power supply for left channel H-bridge, not internally connected to PVCCR or AVCC.

Pin 2: SD – Shutdown signal for IC (low = disabled, high = operational). TTL logic levels with compliance to AVCC.

Pin 3: MUTE – Mute signal for quick disable/enable of outputs (high = outputs switch at 50% duty cycle; low = outputs enabled). TTL logic levels with compliance to AVCC.

Pin 4: LIN – Audio input for the left channel.

Pin 5: RIN – Audio input for the Right channel.

Pin 6: BYPASS – Reference for pre-amplifier inputs. Nominally equal to AVCC/8. Also controls start-up time via external capacitor sizing.

Pin 7: AGND – Analog Ground for analog cells in the core.

Pin 8: AGND – Analog ground for digital/analog cells in the core.

Pin 9: VCLAMP – Internally generated voltage supply for bootstrap capacitors.

Pin 10: PVCCR – Power supply for right channel H-bridge, not connected to PVCCL or AVCC.

Pin 11: PGNDR – Power ground for right channel H-bridge.

Pin 12: ROUT – Class-D -H-bridge negative output for the right channel

Pin 13: BSR – Bootstrap I/O for the right channel.

Pin 14: GAIN1 – Gain select most significant bit. TTL logic levels with compliance to AVCC.

Pin 15: GAIN0 – Gain select least significant bit. TTL logic levels with compliance to AVCC.

Pin 16: AVCC – High-voltage analog power supply. Not internally connected to PVCCR or PVCCL.

Pin 17: AVCC – High-voltage analog power supply. Not internally connected to PVCCR or PVCCL.

Pin 18: BSL – Bootstrap I/O for the left channel.

Pin 19: LOUT – Class-D -H-bridge positive output for the left channel.

Pin 20: PGNDL – Power ground for left channel H-bridge.
